Conclusion

Before my project, I used to hold open minded attitude towards horoscope, and I did not even know if I believed it or not because sometimes I did, sometimes I didn’t. However, I read it whenever I saw it on newspaper. After 14 days of my experiment about being faithful horoscope watching and practicing daily, I had a different understanding of horoscopes. If you ask me “Do you believe in horoscope?” now, my answer will be “No, I don’t.” No one or no a kind of knowledge can predict future and life.

In the 14 days, I was a faithful horoscope watching and then practiced it in life daily, but I didn’t see any help and luck it brought me. Besides the fact that I didn’t even win a dollar in my lottery experiment included in this project, I also did a little statistics myself about the result of the horoscopes in the fourteen days to convince myself. After all things happened, I can evaluate the accuracy when I look back now. I summarize my daily horoscope and conclusion of the day:

3/14: kind of agree/disagree with the daily horoscope

What I get is 6/14 shows neutral result (part of the horoscope is right, part of it is wrong), 6/14 shows negative result (the horoscope is wrong), and only 2/14 shows positive result (the horoscope is right). This is totally out of my expectation when I was expecting I might get 50% is right and 50% is wrong after omitting the 6/14 of neutral result. The data convinces me that it is no use practicing your daily horoscope in life since life is just that unpredictable.

Take what I did on 3/6 as an example, as suggested by my daily horoscope, I was planning my trip to Japan in summer with my friend Olivia. We checked the tickets, looked up online to search hotels, and discussed about where to go shopping in Tokyo. Then the disastrous earthquake happened on3/11. We were shocked and sorry for Japanese, and without doubt, our trip must be canceled. I am not saying that it is a pity not be able to travel Japan, what I say is that nothing can predict what will happen in the future. Even the precision instruments and machines can’t predict the earthquake is coming, how can fortune tellers tell you who will be your husband in the future?

Therefore, after lots of research I did for this project, I learnt more about horoscope. According to my understanding, horoscope is a figurative analysis of the positions of all the planets in the zodiac, for a specific place, and for an exact time and date. This means, that any person’s horoscope, is based on the planetary positions according to their place of birth, date of birth, as well as the precise time of birth. However, the planets in the universe keep moving constantly. Compared to their positions with those the ancient Greek astrologers observed 2000 years ago, they are totally different now. A new planet move into the zodiac and the 12 old planets were not in their original place any more. That is why there are actually 13 zodiacs nowadays as I mentioned in my first post on 3/1.


In my opinion, horoscope might be accurate 2000 years ago, but it is not credible now. It is instead, the trick that the fortune tellers and those who believe and support astrology use to public in order to maintain their profits before they find a new tool and doctrine to supper the current 13 zodiacs theory. Some people tend to use horoscope as an excuse for their failures. For example, when people get their failed mid-term back, they might blame that horoscope says that day is not their day instead of realizing this is the result of not preparing enough. You have to know that you are the only who control what kind of life you have. Although horoscope predicts that you may pick $100 bill on the floor in a Chinese restaurant, it is definitely not going to happen if you insist to stay home. Which means no matter what horoscope tells you or suggests you to do, you are the only controller of your life. 

To all who follow my blog, you should trust yourself, and use your hands to change your destiny, instead of following your horoscope and letting it decide what your fate will be.

I am the oldest among my groups. so I always think the way I think is different from them. After reading the horoscope, I started to noticed that I care less about our age difference, especially after I went to one of my friend's birthday last Saturday. We all had fun and had a nice night. I guess it is what my daily horoscope say that "You are very congenial and cooperative now and more interested in the similarities than in the differences between yourself and others." Besides, I have been sorry about one thing since last Saturday. What happened was that my best friend Olivia broke up with her boyfriend. I knew that after the birthday I went. That was about 3:00a.m. I planned to stay with her, but she said she just wanted to be alone, and also, I needed to work at 9:00a.m. So I had to leave and let her stay alone. I just sent her a message to try to cheer her up since I didn't know what to say at phone. I still didn't have a chance to talk to her today since I left my cell phone at home for the whole day. Therefore, after I finished working at 10:00p.m.(I worked from 5:30p.m. to 10:30p.m) tonight. As suggested by the horoscope that "This is a very good time to let people know you care about them: send a card, write a note of appreciation or even a love letter!" I brought a card in Walgreens and then wrote down what I wanted to talk to her on the card. I planned to mail to tomorrow. Sometimes, there are some words we don't know how to say face to face.

This is also the last day of my 14 experiment.  Thanks god. It is over. I don't need to waste money on buying Superlotto because I don't even win a dollar in this two weeks. I always look forward to seeing the numbers on my tickets shown on the Supperlotto website. However, I only got disappointment every time. I know that doesn't prove that horoscope can't help at all, but at least it shows that luck is something that can't be predicted and expected. It seems that we all understand this fact, but people still buy lottery. I think it is because people always hold hope. That's no a bad thing. Hope is important. Without hope and expectation, we will lose motivation to do anything. But still, we should not take the prize or nice things for granted without paying efforts. Luck is like something that always happens in dream or tales. The principle of "no pay, no gain" is what we see in real life.

Today was Sunday and I worked from 9:00a.m. to 9:00p.m. As I mentioned in my previous blog posts, I work as a front desk in a badminton club, and I work in San Carlos while I live in Milpitas. At first, I loved my job very much. It was easy and I could do my homework there if it was not busy. So I do repetitive work everyday. However, the longer I worked, the more I feel it is boring. Take today as an example, I was sitting exactly at the same place for 12 hours alone (there is only one front desk in the badminton club). And the most important is that it is totally unrelated to my major. Since I major in Applied Mathematics, I I want to accumulate more useful working experience related to this area. Thinking of this and then combine the horoscope that ("Making a decision regarding your future or your family life is favored at this time") I was told today, I decide to find another job. 

Conclusion of the day:

I spent hours taking a look at job searching at craiglist.com. However, I found out that I was not qualified for many jobs and the most demanding ones are software developers, web designer and computer program writers. I felt really frustrated about that. Then I started to realized the fact that only majoring in Mathematics was not competitive enough in America. I needed to learn and know more. As a result, I decided to take one JAVA class in next quarter in De Anza. This will be the first class I take in De Anza that is not required by the universities I am going to study at in the coming Fall. 

After today, I had a different understanding about HOROSCOPE. Sometimes, thing that mentioned in the horoscope  may seem so trivial. However, they can bring a series of results. For example, It told me to make a decision about my future. That inspired me to think about my current job, then I tried to see if there was any new direction for myself, so I looked at craiglist.com, and I found out what was demanding in the current job market and made a decision to take class in De Anza in order to be more competitive.

Therefore, horoscope/fortune teller give you suggestion or you can say "hint" for your future, you need to think about  it. You should try to connect your real life or fact with the fortune telling. And finally, you are the one who make decision and also, you are the one who take the consequence.

Today was Saturday I needed to work from 9:00a.m. to 6:00p.m. Today was not busy at all compared to usual Saturdays. Besides, the phone didn't ring even once. When I checked my inbox there was not many new e-mails as said in the horoscope. Things were in order and went through smoothly. Besides, my boss was not here today, so I was extraordinarily free.  However, I still followed its suggestion that I went home as soon as possible and then read on my bed with the door of my bedroom closed. The night was quiet and peaceful. When I was too tired to read, I fell sleep soon. I think it was at around 11:00p.m. The funny thing was I woke up at 5:00a.m. in the morning automatically. (I usually wake up at 07:30 on Sunday since I need to work from 9:00a.m. to 9:00p.m.) and then I did my homeworks until times to leave for job.


Conclusion of the day:
It was a perfectly typical weekend for me.

The point was nothing really happened although I followed the suggestion. It can't be more ordinary. And I was kind of bored with my routine and the daily horoscope. It didn't bring my any surprise today. What can I day about today's horoscope? Useless. It was totally useless. The first part was wrong, and the second half of it was pointless. I started to believe that horoscope can not help one to boost his luck and fortune. I think I prefer trusting myself instead of trusting the horoscope stuff. I suddenly feel that it was so stupid to follow all the doctrines from horoscopes and expect lucky things to happen. I do see any chaos,  or even feel busy these days. This quarter's classes are not challenging at all. Although it sounds so good to others, I actually dislike this kind of life. I remember in my first year in De Anza, I regarded grade was everything to me, I required myself that I had to get all A for every classes, so I didn't work to be a full time student. However, after I finished all my major required classes, I take GE classes to fulfill the IGETC. Compared to my majores classes, those GE classes are easier. Another thing is that the grades are kind of unimportant in this quarter, so I believe that I am getting lazy. I hope there is something can energize me before the final exam week.

When I was reading the horoscope that "Pay your debt first and look for ways in which you can save." I suddenly remember that I got a $280 ticket two weeks ago. I just put the ticket in my trunk angrily and  I still didn't pay for it. So, I decide to write the check and pay for it today since I regarded it as a kind of debt. That was a lot to me, $280! That was so right, now I have to look for ways to save. 
When I finished school in the morning (I only have class in the morning on Friday), my friend Noah asked me to go gym with him and I really loved to do so. I kept going gym for three week since I realized I was getting too far and I told myself I had to lose weights before summer comes. After we finish exercising, I went to my friend's party in a Chinese restaurant called "Little sheep" located in Stevens Creek, and then went to my friend's home for the cake. Today was kind of busy, but it was a nice and funny day.

Conclusion of the day:
After I wrote the check to pay the ticket, I feel relieved. It is the first ticket I get in America and it cost me one week paid from my part time job. Since it says I need to look for ways to save, I asked my sister if she is willing to cook me lunch so that I can bring my lunch box to school everyday. Surprisingly, she said yes instantly after I asked her. After some simply calculation, I know that I can save almost $200 a month if I don't eat outside. Besides, I can't believe that today's horoscope is so accurate. First, "The energies are in the direction of good health as well as the desire to socialize. " This statement tells exactly what I want these days. I want to have good health that is why I keep exercising for weeks. Also, I enjoy socializing and be with my friends. They like me as well because they say it is always fun when I am with them, so "you are particularly witty and make for fun company at the end of the workday" is totally correct. Thirdly, Noah's inviting me to go gym today shows that "You have an interest in joining a gym, perhaps with an old friend" is correct as well. All of these happens after I write the check and pay the fine. What I will do is that follow the horoscope's suggestion that "if you make the promise and commit your money, you will want to commit your time as well."

My friend car-pool me everyday since he lives next to my house, we have the same class in the morning and he doesn't have a car. Because I am the one who drives, I decide when to leave for school everyday. Usually, our scheduled time to go to school is 9:45a.m., but I am usually late and pick him up at 9:55a.m. Sometimes I am on time, but he is not at the right place and waiting for me, then I am kind of mad because if I go to school myself, I can go whenever I want, but now i can't.
After reading the horoscope this morning before I left, I realized I was too hard to him as his friend. Therefore, I was at the right place at 9:45 and waited for I while. He was there after a few minutes. When I was waiting, I was thinking that Marco was always waiting for me but he never said anything to me. I felt so bad and guilty so I bought him a piece of muffin. When he asked why I gave him muffin, I told him because we were friends.
Beside, when I was about to have lunch with my friend Noah, I noticed that I was always the one who decides when to eat. So today, when we were thinking about what to eat, I told Noah I was fine with whatever he wanted. He suggested Chinese food, Although I didn't like Chinese food every much, I said yes. Then he brought me to a Chinese restaurant. The food was so good and really economical. I think I would go to this restaurant again very soon.

Conclusion of the day:
The horoscope teaches me one important thing today. I might be too objective to my friends. I remember when Marco told me that he wanted to make a tattoo in spring break yesterday, I might have said something bad to him. I said,"Really? but I don't really like guys make tattoo on their bodies" Then he didn't say much. When I think back now, I believed I said too much, I shouldn't judge him based on my conceptions about things. He has freedom to do whatever he wants, and I have no rights to judge him. After that, I am not sure if it is because I followed the horoscope to make some tiny changes so that I felt so good  with my friends recently, especially today. I had lunch with my friend Noah, I went to gym with my friend Marco, I have drinks with Olivia afternoon and then I had dinner with my friend Tony. I feel I am always surrounded by my friends and that makes me feel so good. I appreciate these different kinds of friendship very much. That proves that the first sentence of the horoscope is wrong that "Emotional self control and feelings of distance and aloneness could overwhelm you today." because I didn't feel lonely at all today.

I took class as usual. 10:30-11:20 (math class),  I had lunch with my friend Olivia at 11:30-13:30. Then 13:30-14:40 (Astronomy class), and then went to work until 22:00. That was the most typical or normal day of mine today. After I sat down at seat I usually occupy, one of my classmates Tony (We don't talk a lot usually. We are just classmates. That's it.) asked me to sit next to him. I didn't know how to reject him and I actually didn't want to move, so instead, I asked him to move to sit next to me. And he did. I was kind of surprised about that, and the feeling was weird. 

Conclusion of the day:


Today's horoscope is mainly about love horoscope. I think the only funny thing is that Tony asked me to sit next to me with no reason. Since I am single, I believe the second half of the horoscope is not for me. What happened was  I didn't even have a chance to talk to the guy I was interested in since he was absent today. I didn't think there was any male classmates or friends paid attention to me today. What fireworks can I expect? The horoscope was totally nonsense. I didn't  encounter any guys I was interested in either. By the way, the one I was interested in texts me today he couldn't come to have lunch with me the next day since he was kind of busy. (I invited him to go to In and Out together two day ago,and he said yes at that time!) I am disappointed about the horoscope today the most since the experiment started because it was the least accurate.

OMG. I have to say the horoscope today was accurate.

Before I went to school today. I put my car key in my trunk and then I closed the door. I was totally locked out since my spare was in my school bag and it was in the trunk as well. I was no lost and didn't know what to do. I kept calling my friends for help. Then I called my Allstate agent and she sent someone to help me to open the door. The man charged me $120. Although my insurance can refund me $60, I still needed to pay $60. The bad thing was I missed my math class because of this. This was the first time I skipped classes in my history in De Anza. That was what the horoscope said "An event that disrupts your normal." I had a feeling that today would not be my day in the morning.


However, something unexpected happened. When I got my midterm in my math 22 class, I was the only one who got full credit (I am taking two math classes this quarter). The reason why I said it was unexpected was because that the answers of 4 out of 12 multiple choices were made by guessing. And  they were all correct.


Conclusion of the day:
In fact, When I was thinking what to do after I noticed that I put the key in the trunk, I saw my friend Sharon.(Actually, I used the gym in club house of her apartments community today). She suggested driving me to go to have class first and then come back and call insurance company for help after classes. I thought it worked, but in fact, it was me who didn't want to go to school. I can't explain myself. I just didn't want to go to have class today. It corresponded to the horoscope that "may do something quite unexpected and out of character for you.".  In short, today was really "restless and excitable". One thing I agreed with the horoscope was that "Impatience with boring routines and the want for freedom and change may encourage you to do something you normally consider childish or irresponsible." I kept going gym with my friend for 3 weeks since I wanted to lose weight before summer came. However, I didn't see any result so far. I didn't lose weight at all, so I feel frustrated impatiently. That was the reason I didn't go gym today. However, I didn't do anything I "normally consider childish or irresponsible". Still, only part of the horoscope may be correct.

Olivia told me they planned to go to Las Vegas in spring break. I was shocked because she was supposed to tell me everything before she made any decisions since I was her best friend. Now I felt I was replaced by someone as her best friend. OMG! The horoscope was so true today "your confidence is a little shaky."

Conclusion of the day:

Later on, I thought I was bad. That was normal that Olivia had her friends other than me. I am so stupid to compare myself with others. I can't agree more with the horoscope today, "Resist comparing yourself to other people".  I should always trust her and our friendship. That was what that means by friends.

I follow the horoscope that "Do something to boost your self-confidence, rather than indulge these negative feelings." so, I came up with an idea. Then I asked Olivia to go shopping with me on Friday after my morning class and she said yes immediately. And we asked other friends to go together. We both look forward to our visiting to the on Friday.

After she said yew, my confidence came back and the feeling of jealousy disappeared.

After I went to the place I worked, my colleague told me that our boss went to skiing with her families and she would not come to office today. You know what, that was the best thing I wanted. My job was the front desk in a badminton club, and what I did was asking people's name when they came to play. Therefore, I could do whatever I wanted when no people came in if my boss was not in the office and watching the camera. Therefore, I the episodes which I needed to catch up long time ago. I planned to finish my homework as well. However, since the horoscope told me to relax, so I would do that the next day. Then I msn with my friend. We talked about everything and how we were going to spend the approaching spring break.

Conclusion of the day:

My horoscope said: "This is a good time to travel or vacation. Even if you do not vacation at this time, you are likely to find that you enjoy life more." That was true. Even I could not vacation now. I really enjoyed the life I had now. I applied the universities I wanted and waiting for the offers which would come out at late April. I don't feel stressful since there is nothing I can do but waiting. I remember in summer, I cried before my math final exam because I was so worries that I could not do a good job and got an A in that class. That doesn't mean I don't care about my grades anymore in this quarter and the next quarter. It just means I don't have to push myself too harsh and require that I need to get A for all the classes I take.
Also, I talked to my best friend Olivia about our travel to Japan in summer today. We both discussed the trip excitedly. We said we would go to Japan together if we are accepted by the universities we want.
Yea. Life is good.

After I worked for a whole day, my colleague asked me if I want to have food together and she suggested to go to Denny's. Conclusion of the day:

I follow my daily horoscope that "take your time finding out as many facts as you can before jumping to a conclusion." That is the reason why I go to Denny's and the result is totally out of my expectation.The truth is I like Denny's than any other fast food restaurant in America so far. There is a famous saying in China, what you hear may not be the truth, what you see may not be the truth either. Only when you try it or experience it yourself, you know what is true and false.

On the other hand, I kind of disagree with the second half of the horoscope that "This can be a time when you are forced to confront and deal with something which is no longer working; from old, outworn possessions to an unhealthy relationship or a deeply ingrained, self-defeating attitude."

The fact is, everything ran smoothly today and I didn't have any trouble on doing anything. I was not forced to confront and deal with something which was no longer working either.

Today was Friday, and I only had class in the morning. When my friend Tony asked me to go to play badminton afternoon, I said yes immediately because my daily horoscope told me "You cannot, and probably will not want to, be alone now with the energy that surrounds you at this time." And I asked my friend Olivia to go with me since we haven't seen for a week due to our busy schedule. When we were taking a break after we have played for hours, we chatted a lot. Olivia told me a lot about what was going on with her and her boy friend. She said that was a unhappy relationship and she wanted to break up with him. I gave her a lot of suggestions since she said I was her best friend and she needed my opinions so much. I enjoyed the sisterhood chat . 

Conclusion of the day:

When I think back now, I think the horoscope is actually wrong . It says "Listen to your partner or a friend who can give you an objective view point on the issue." But the fact is the other way around, it is my friend who needs my point of views on her relationship, not me. However, I really enjoyed the time I played badminton with my friends today, and I feel so great by letting my energy out. I like exercise, especially when I have accompanies with me.

Based on the horoscopes I read

According to the horoscope, 

I actually tries many things that I wouldn't try. In the morning, I brought a bottle of Gatorade with light blue while I always buy the yellow one, which is lemon flavor. The new flavor was not bad, but I still liked my the yellow one better. At about 12:00, I went to have lunch with my friend Olivia. She brought me to a new place, Penera, which is located at Stevens Creek Blvd and next to Whole food. Although I have been going to De Anza for almost two years, I never been there before. I usually go to Coffee Society (located in the mall in the opposite side with De Anza campus) since it is closer to De Anza and the strawberry smoothie was fantastic. Also, because the horoscope suggest me walking, instead of driving, we walked to Penara. Luckily, the weather was nice and we enjoyed the walk. I orders a piece of lemon cheese cake and a mango smoothie. First, I would never have cheese cake in lemon flavor. Second I was not a huge fan of mango, so instead of mango, I like strawberry better. Today, was totally an exception for me. 

Conclusion of the day:

Since the horoscope asked me not to stick with my old routines, I made some new try today. However, I believe I liked my old routines better. For Gatorade, I like the old one. For Penera, I don't think I would go again in the future because its free wi-fi service has 30 minutes limit while it is unlimited in Coffee Society. For smoothie, I can judge immediately that Coffee Society's smoothie is far better. Therefore, it is incorrect to say that "if you just stick with your  routines. You are sure to regret your inaction." On the contrary, I kind of regret to have new try today. What can I say about the horoscope? I have to say it is actually wrong. The last sentence is also wrong. 

"It is better to wait for the weather change"? No. I don't want to weather to change. I like today's weather very much and I feel extraordinary comfortable about that. I am disappointed with the accuracy of the horoscope today.

Based on the horoscope, I asked my sister to exchange her green backpack with my black purse for a day. Besides, I used a green folder instead of the cartoon folder I use everyday since my lucky color is green today.


After school today, I needed to go to Alum rock to meet my accouter for filing tax income of 2010. I planned to go fwy 85 ->237 from De Anza to Milpitas (I live in Milpitas) and then go fwy 680 to Alum rock because I am familiar with the route. However, I knew it was kind of detour. When I was sitting in the car and deciding whether I should try a new route, fwy 280->680 from De Anza to Alum Rock directly, I thought of my horoscope today "conquer new ground so you'll be in ever better position when the situation is less ideal". Okay, let me try a new route with GPS. I felt kind of insecure at the beginning when I was on fwy280, and there were a lot of cars at the merging place of  fwy 280and fwy680. However, it just took me 25 minutes from De Anza to Alum Rock. If I went my original route, it may take 25 minutes from De Anza to Milpitas, and then 20 minutes from Milpitas to Alum Rock. That was what that meant by  "situation is less ideal?"


Before I back home, I went to Safeway to buy today's super lotto with my daily lucky numbers:
22, 41, 49, 11, 43, 31 (since there is no 49, I chose the first digit of 49, which is 4)

Conclusion of the day:

I agree with the horoscope from 2011 Astrology.com that  "Emotions is fair , Money is fair , Wellness is fair". I did not see I got better fortune today even I followed 2011 Astrology.com's gospel, but I felt successful to try a new route and a fwy I never used before. Meanwhile, I was thinking if I would used fwy280->680 without reading my horoscope today. The answer is probably yes. Although I was not told to "conquer new grounds", I  might try new route myself. So I did not think today's horoscope really helped. One bad thing happened was that I wore a pair of new socks today, but it turned out that it was also my last time to wear them. (see picture)I hope better things are gonna happen to me. I can't wait to read my daily horoscopes tomorrow.

Okay, tell you the truth, I prepared a little piece of cheat sheet before I came to school for my math 2B mid-term. I actually studied last night, but I made a piece of cheat sheet just in case I forget  those formulas suddenly because I might be too nervous.  After I came to school, I checked my horoscope on 2011 Astrology.com before my exam. It said I should take some risk and should not be fear the consequences. After thinking for a while, I threw my cheat sheet to the trash can. I thought I could handle my exam without the cheat sheet.


As I expected, the exam was simple for I prepared last night. I could do a good job without cheating.



Today was a short day to me, since I only had two classes and I did not need to work today. I went to Great Mall. I bought a Columbia pink windbreaker (it was $36 and now $29.95) from Sports Authority. I loved it so much and I thought it was really cheap.

I agree with the horoscope from 2011 Astrology.com that  "Emotions is fair , Money is fair , Wellness is fair", since nothing really special happened today, but I did feel good after my math mid-term.That was a nice try  and breakthrough since making a little piece of cheat sheet was always one of my bad habits. Sometimes I use them, sometimes I don't. I know I should not do that, so I will try not using cheat sheet later on.

One thing was a little bit special was that I went to Great Mall myself and it happened that Sports Authority had a big sale (Actually, it seemed that it was closing very soon), so there was big discount for everything. I did not plan to go to Great Mall today, but I finished school earlier and I had time, so I went there. Finally, I bought a jacket I liked very much.
